What is it like to live in Rennes? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would recommend to live in Rennes, doesn't matter near the town center or not, it is well-served. The city looks like some others in Britany: this eternal atmosphere related to its past, old buildings, and architectures which are mixed with modern ones. There are many students moving around the streets day and night. Besides, there are many spots on the banks of the rivers (Ille and Vilaine) and the parks (especially Parc du Thabor which is beautiful).

What is the student lifestyle like in Rennes?

There are always students in all the pubs in the town center, in "Rue de la Soif" for example, and especially on Thursday nights. Also, you can find some bad guy who want to sell drugs but you can easily ignore them. You just have to be careful as always.

How much does it cost to live in Rennes?

It depends. It can go from 250 to 450€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rennes? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it is not hard. Check "Leboncoin" or Facebook pages, there are regularly announces. I never check real estate agents because it seems expensive but idk, I have some friends who found accommodation with them without any problem. (But they had to pay "Taxe d'habitation" on the beginning of the year, which is quite expensive -- One month rent).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I usually buy food in the supermarket and I don't eat in restaurants for financial reasons, but I always heard good opinions.

What places would you recommend visiting in Rennes?

Parc du Thabor, Cathédrale Saint Anne, Le Mail François Mitterrand, Promenade du Lavoir...

Is the nightlife good in Rennes? Where is good to go?

It is good, yes. There are some night pubs (Contre Escarpe, Le Petit Velo, La place... ) where you can go without paying anything; and also night club if you really want to go dancing. There are about 5 or 6, and 4 where I often go : Delicatessen, L'Espace Club, Gatsby (but I rather go to the 1988 Live Club because there are 3 rooms available with different kind of musics, you just have to chose the right one for you).

What advice would you give future students heading to Rennes?

Don't go in Kennedy or Maurepas if you are a girl! But otherwise, there are good schools, a good nightlife and a great atmosphere where you can meet many people, so just go there if you have the possibility.
