Why did you choose to go to Quito, Ecuador?
I decided to come to Quito because of professional reasons, it gave me the opportunity to learn more about indigenous peoples and to speak Spanish again! I also wanted to know more about South America and I thought Ecuador would be a good start.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I get a four-month scholarship, 360 euro per month
What is the student lifestyle like in Quito?
All the party is really close to the universities! Besides, if you're up for adventure sports, Ecuador has a lot to offer.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Quito to other students?
Yes, I would
What is the food like?
Food is good and rather cheap, although it is not very varied.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Quito?
Not really, there's a website "Edx" which is very useful, or even facebook groups
How much does it cost to live in Quito?
Rent goes from 150 to 300 dollars, plus let's say 7 dollars everyday for food (if you are not a great cook), or if you know how to cook, then let's say about 25 dlls per week.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, Ecuadorian Spanish is very easy to understand because people speak very calmly
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Quito from your city?
By plane!
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Quito?
La Zona or La Floresta, even Guapulo
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Quito?
mmm every "hueca" is good and not too expensive. Restaurants tend to be very expensive.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
the whole of Quito is a great place to visit
