Tapas El Camino

The Tapas restaurant “El Camino” in Puerto de la Cruz is one of my favourites. I visited it a lot of times during my six months in Puerto de la Cruz and I always loved it!

It’s situated next to the Centro Comercial Martiánez, at the stairway (camino means “way”) and it’s quite small, but with a lot of love and atmosphere. Its owner is a very nice, funny person who speaks not just Spanish but also the most important things in English, German and French (those are all the languages I tried, maybe there are others) – especially related to food, of course.

He offers a very small menu – sandwiches, burger, salads, drinks. But the dish he always recommends is “Tapas mixtas alla mamma” – a mix of five tapas cooked by his Mum. They are not always the same, he changes the offer each day, you can usually choose between 8 or 9 different tapas – or let him choose for you. I’ve been there five times and I’ve never been disappointed; they all taste extraordinary! You can also tell him what you don’t like, and he excludes it from your mix.

As I have to cross the way where the restaurant is situated each day to and from work, he already knows me and after my second visit he gave us one tapas bowl extra – he has a lot of people returning to his restaurant.

So, if you want to try typical Canarian tapas and an amazing “Barraquito” (typical coffee – liquor – drink) – go there! It’s not expensive and you will love it.
