Lago Martíanez is one of the largest tourist attractions in Puerto de la Cruz. It’s a large swimming pool area designed by a famous artist situated in the heart of the city, right next to the sea. Therefore, the pools are all filled with sea water and have the same temperature as the water, the only difference is that there are no annoying waves or rocks to disturb your swim.
At the beginning it sounds a bit weird to pay 5. 50€ entrance fee and not being allowed to bring food or drinks with you, just to swim in a pool with sea water next to the sea. But as already mentioned, there are no stones and no waves and the area is really beautiful. It’s decorated with small bridges, fountains and a lot of exotic plants and it’s so huge! You can choose out of several pools with different sizes – a large one with small canals, a large fountain and some islands. Others are a bit smaller, have Jacuzzis or are especially designed for children. There’s an area for everyone!
Furthermore, you have a lot of possibilities to have food and drinks in there, as you are not allowed to bring something with you. There are small kiosks where you can buy sandwiches, ice cream and drinks for moderate prices. You will also find a restaurant for a larger lunch and cocktails. And if you don’t have the right swimming equipment there are also small shops to buy accessories.
I have been to Lago Martiánez twice and it was always a very nice day, you can relax in the sun, swim a bit, enjoy cocktails and have a good time. The prices are really okay, even for students and even if it’s crowded on sunny days and especially the weekends, you never feel that because the area is large enough for everyone. So if you don’t have a swimming pool in your residency just try Lago Martiánez! You can even get in with your ticket, get out during the day and come back later. So if you want to go home and cook there or do something else outside that’s no problem at all.
