What is it like to live in Plzen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Plzeň, city in the west Bohemia, is the fourth biggest city in the Czech republic. It was built on the confluence of four rivers. Its very centre is not so big, but cute. On the main square - Square of the Republic is St. Bartholomeus cathedral, you can visit the tower, it's a beautiful view from there! There is also very nice City hall in renaissance style and Big synagogue - the third biggest on the world. There is quite a lot of restaurants and coffees around the square. And the most important thing - the best beer Pilsner Urquell is produced in Pilsen!

What is the student lifestyle like in Plzen?

Because Pilsen is not so big, everything is near there - it is good. There is some student parties, usually on Wednesday and also during the weekend.

How much does it cost to live in Plzen?

Pilsen, and Czech republic in general is really cheap for foreign people! For a big beer you usually pay around 1-2 euro. Apartments also aren't so expensive, but it depends where you would like to live.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Plzen? Is there any advice you can give?

I don't know exactly, however there is a lot of advertisements, you can find some student flat or student dormitory.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Czech food is not so healthy, it is usually some meat + soup + knedliky. However, there is quite a lot of another restaurants, Italian, Greek, vegetarians.

If you would like to try some czech food u should eat for example:

svíčková na smetaně, guláš, kachní stehno s červeným zelím a knedlíky, řízek s bramborovým salátem.

What places would you recommend visiting in Plzen?

Very centre at all, tower, zoo, zámek Kozel and hrad Radyně - castles very near to Pilsen.

Is it good to eat out in Plzen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes it is, it is quite cheap. There is a lot of daily menus in restaurants.

If you wanna try Czech food - go to the brewery: restaurace Na Spilce, or to restaurace U Salzmannů.

  • Vegetarian: Slunečnice, Satyr.
  • Italian: Pizzeria Martinská
  • Is the nightlife good in Plzen? Where is good to go?

    There is not so many clubs. Erasmus students usually like: PH+, Mefisto, Calabria palace, Hockey bar.

    For more alternative people: Neutral, Kartel, Anděl.
