Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?

No other real choice. But also - museums!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

One term, about two and a half months. But I don't receive any money!

What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?

Not sure, didn't hang out with other students! Probably it's quite lively. I think there's a bar called Le Dix that is frequented pretty well only by students. Apparently they go there for the cheap Sangria?!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Paris to other students?

Perhaps. You will get fed up in the end though, as with everything.

What is the food like?

Good?! Didn't eat out much, the fresh produce is rather expensive but probably worth it…

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?

Initially yes, but then a friend got in touch.

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

A lot! I paid around 500 per month to live in the 10e, but didn't have to pay bills.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Relatively. At first it is intimidating but you do get used to hearing people speaking French. Of course, there are always English-speakers about. At ULIP the courses are taught in French but reluctantly! You have to force yourself to continue speaking French if you want to progress.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Paris from your city?

Eurostar perhaps. But I know that other students prefer to take a bus!

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Paris?

Not sure, it depends what is on. I don't tend to go out ad hoc, prefer to have something planned, thus it depends what is on offer! If you're into Jazz then there are plenty of clubs; New Morning is good, in the 10e.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Paris?

Depends what you like, there's a wide range. Most have websites, otherwise take a chance!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

So many. If you're after museums and galleries, look no further. I recommend the Jeu de Paume and Orangerie because they put on excellent expos. Usually the entry for students is greatly reduced if you show an official ID (drivers licence works well). Be adventurous! Try the Victor Hugo house at Place des Vosges, Musées Carnavalet, Cognacq-Jay, Nissim de Camando and Jacquemart-André. These are all highly excellent.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Paris in the future?

Don't worry too much. If you don't make friends at uni (if you're at uni) and it is hard, you will find that you become more independant, which is very helpful when no one will accompany you places; you just go on your own and sometimes even make unexpected friends!
