My Experience in Paris, France - by Tania

What's it like living in Paris?

Paris is a bohemian city where you'll have some of the best times of your life if you decide to go and live there. It's perfect for those who want to live surrounded by culture every day, and it's a city where you'll never have seen everything you want to see, with thousands of hidden corners to explore.

What's the student life like in Paris?

Vibrant. Everyone is very friendly and willing to get to know each other.

How expensive is living in Paris?

In all honesty, the cost of living in Paris isn't cheap in comparison with Spain. Above all, rent prices are higher, but you won't mind this too much if it's your absolute dream to live in Paris. You can also always find hidden gems for good prices.

Did you find it hard to find a place to live in Paris? Do you have any flat-hunting tips?

Yeah, really hard. My advice is to check for new offers every day and negotiate with the landlords. Another tip is not to find somewhere to live through an agency but instead to do it independently, since they'll charge you a service fee, and your deposit will be lower if you organise it just between the landlord and you. I recommend booking yourself a room in a hostel or in a holiday apartment during the first two weeks, having a list ready of properties you're going to visit during that time and exploring the place you're going to be living in.

What's the food like in Paris? What are your favourite dishes?

It depends on your tastes. In general, the desserts are my favourite: I love macaroons. Apart from this, I haven't tried many local dishes, since I like to cook for myself.

What places do you recommend visiting in Paris?

The best things to visit in Paris in my opinion are Sacre Coeur and the Arc du Triomphe, where you can enjoy great views of the city.

What about eating out in Paris? What are your favourite places?

I haven't been to many restaurants.

What are the best places for partying in Paris?

The Latino district and Champs-Élysées.

Do you have any advice for future students coming to Paris?

Enjoy every moment you spend here!
