I want to find a house NOW!

My Experience in Paris, France - by Patrick

Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?

I did a marketing internship there.

How long did your scholarship last? How much were you paid?

Nothing.

What's the student life like in Paris?

I don't know much about this, but the student area in southern Paris is great and there are lots of student parties for internationals. The Spanish students usually live together in a house and the students from other countries in the building next door.

Would you recommend the city and University of Paris to other students?

Generally, yes. The city is beautiful and has lots of monuments. On the other hand, the restaurants and bars are very expensive, as is the rent.

What's the food like in France?

I didn't get to try a lot of it because the prices in restaurants were so high. I loved the crepes and picnics, with good cheese and wine.

Did you find it hard to find accommodation in Paris?

Yeah, it's quite difficult but it is possible. Rent usually costs around 500 euros per month. You also have to prove that your parents will be able to assist you financially and normally pay a deposit of one or two months' rent. If you find a place you like, reserve it quickly! There are always lots of people interested in places.

How expensive is living in Paris?

1, 000-1, 5000 euros per month.

How are you finding the language? Have you signed up to a language class at the university?

No... the language is quite easy in terms of vocabulary. It's quite similar to English, Spanish and Italian, and you can communicate easily by improvising using your knowledges of other languages. The Parisians have an accent which is hard to understand, and it's harder to distinguish the words than it is in other languages.

What's the cheapest way of getting to Paris from your home city?

Frankfurt to Paris with flixbus.com costs 25-40 euros.

What are the best places for partying in Paris?

Grands Boulevards - there are some good pubs around there. More interesting if you're into salsa dancing would be a place on the Seine River, near Gare de Austerlitz station.

What about eating out in Paris? What are your favourite places?

I love Montmartre because of its atmosphere.

What does Paris have to offer in terms of culture?

Lac Daumesnil, Chateau de Versailles, Hotel de Ville, Concorde, St. Germain de Laye, Montmarte - the Eiffel Tour is my favourite.
