My experience in Paris, France, by Melina

What's it like living in Paris? Would you recommend living there?

It is such a beautiful city. There is an amazing atmosphere, there's always loads to do. The museums are free on the 1st Sunday of each month. There is an extensive public transport network throughout all of the city which is handy for students looking for a job.

What's student life like in Paris?

Great!

What's the cost of living like in Paris?

It's an incredibly expensive city.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Do you have any advice?

Yes, it's difficult because of how expensive yet small the apartments are. I'd recommend the Parisian suburbs as public transport can take you to the centre up until 1am.

What's the food like? What are some of your favourite dishes?

There is amazing food there. As it's a very cosmopolitan city there are so many different types of restaurants. There is a growing American influence on French cuisine, but the food is still incredible. My favourite meal is a classic: calamari and salmon risotto. I also love French burgers with a blue cheese sauce.

Which places should you visit in Paris?

The Eiffel tower, the natural reserves, Château of Vincennes with its parks and tourist attractions during the summer, the museums, and the Château of Versailles.

And where are the best places to eat in Paris?

I really like Châtelet, Les Halles, or Bibliothèque George Pompidou because they're packed with so many different restaurants all next to one another.

What's the nightlife like in Paris? Where are the best places to go?

Nightlife in Paris is buzzing. For those who love to dance and drink but don't want to spend too much, I'd recommend heading to Bastille. There's a row of different pubs full of young people.

What advice would you give to students who are about to head to Paris?

Live within your means, keep your priorities in check, and be open to everything so you can properly immerse yourself in French culture.
