My experience in Paris, France, by Lou

What's life like in Paris? Would you recommend this city?

I'm originally from Brittany, I came to Paris two years ago to study. It's an amazing city, bursting with culture.

What's student live like in Paris?

Paris is both a major global cultural hub, and at the same time a big city where you can easily feel alone and anonymous in the middle of a loud crowd. People can be less approachable here than other places, but you just need to persevere and you'll end up becoming used to the atmosphere and environment.

What's the cost of living like in Paris?

Life is expensive in Paris, but there are also a few spots where pints or nights out of all kinds are more reasonably priced. You need to scout out the different areas and you'll come across hundreds of wonderful places.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Do you have any advice?

It's not hard to find accommodation in Paris, there's student accommodation, accommodation for international students, and loads of apartments to rent. But don't expect it to be cheap.

What's the food like? What are some of the best food to get?

Paris is a very diverse city where you can eat anything, whether it be Chinese, Indian, French, Italian, whatever time of night. I live near lots of Indian restaurants, so I can't get enough of cheap vegetarian curries.

Where are the best places to visit in Paris?

All of the Eastern parts of Paris are incredible, it's more 'underground', popular, and above all geared towards students. I'd recommend picnics by Canal Saint-Martin, walking in Parc de Belleville or in Buttes Chaumont, and clubbing at Bellevilloise!

Where's good to eat in Paris?

There's nothing quite like the falafels at the Ace du Fallafel in Le Marais!

What's the nightlife like in Paris? Where are the places to go?

You cannot miss the salsa nights outside on the Pont Neuf banks, they are so different and relatively unheard of.

The Hip hop or Free Your Funk nights at the Bellevilloise are amazing, also there are always famous artists that play at Trianon or La Machine du Moulin Rouge in their concert halls. La Concrète, les Nuits Fauves are also really good clubs where you can dance all weekend.
