What is it like to live in Paris? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Paris is a beautiful, world renowned city. However, for a student life it can get either a little boring or a little pricey, compared to other french cities such as Bordeaux or Lyon for instance, living in Paris costs you so much more. Finding a good place to live, inside the city walls is really hard and so is finding a really fun and good club to go on your weekends. Much young french people don't go party at clubs, they rather have house parties, again this is sadly due to over prices especially in clubs such as L'Arc or Queen's...

What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?

Mostly chill and fun, although a lot of hard work as well. But so far, I like it.

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

Honestly a lot. Especially your rent would be very pricey if you live in a place inside Paris, in zone 1. For food and stuff, it depends on how "fancy" you're gonna go.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, a lot. I recommend that you start searching months and months in advance. You can find good, non scam adverts in websites such as bienici.com, pap.fr, lacartedescolocs (if you're thinking for a colocation). Besides that, having a french guarantor would help a lot in your search for an accommodation, if you have that possibility.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In general it's a well known fact that french cuisine is amazing! In Paris you can walk in any non touristic bistrot and have a great tasting meal.

What places would you recommend visiting in Paris?

My favorites are museums, Musée d'Orsay, Musée Rodin( in spring it's garden is magnificent), the district of Marais (accessible easily through M1, station Saint Paul), Saint Germain, Saint Michel and Montmarte for a little bit of bohème mood

Is it good to eat out in Paris? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Definitely, i would just stay away as possible from too touristic places, because they're just gonna over price your meal. In Paris just walk in to any bistrot, preferably a cute small and traditional one, and you'll be fine. I recommand Sheekspeare and Co to grab small bites, Merci for a perfect lunch and Holybelly for a fantastic breakfast/ brunch.

Is the nightlife good in Paris? Where is good to go?

For me, not very bright. Most of the people my age stay at home, throwing house parties. Most clubs go for pop music and too fancy dresscodes and unnecessary prices. So to be honest I'm a little disappointed with the nightlife. But then again it depends on your style.

What advice would you give future students heading to Paris?

Plan waaay more ahead, don't wait till you arrive. Especially for accommodation start searching really early. Get to know the culture beforehand, as well as the language. Honestly most people speak English nowadays, but you don't really want to speak English with French. It's like they're speaking French even they're speaking English... Makes everything much more complicated than it should be! :)

    Hello there,
I already knew french when i came to Paris i went to a french high school, so I don't really have much idea on language schools here etc. Though, if you think to come without knowing the language i hardly recommend that you find a good language school. French are not very friendly with people who don't speak the language, plus most of them even the young people can't talk English. It would a good idea for you to start practising a bit if possible, from now. I recommend for that duolingo app which is free of charge and helps you learn at least the basic stuff.
