What is it like to live in Paris? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Paris is like a dream for international people. It still has some special places that have to be seen. On the other hand, prices are quite high and living in the city itself is often not affordable. So most people live far from each other, have a long way back home from work and are sad and rude on the road or the public transportation (it has 2 facets).

What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?

It is probably the worst French city for student life (that is not so pleasant when compared to the size of the city, and regarding prices and events). But I am pretty sure that Erasmus people are having some fun there, it's easy to fall in love with this city.

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

At least 1500€/month if you want to have a chance to survive (I mean if you don't have a student accommodation and live inside Paris).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Is there any advice you can give?

Maybe not so difficult but so expensive or otherwise so dirty. Most people live outside Paris. In the south, it is now expensive as well but in the north, you have cheaper but dirty places. And public transportation is expensive as well if you live far away and not so reliable... The best is either to be so lucky to have a student flat as Erasmus or have family there.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is like French but Parisian somehow (they don't know the real values of the countryside). And actually, some restaurants are claiming that their food is of high quality but it is just frozen stuff heated that look good, few quantities, and are expensive (I have to be honest).

What places would you recommend visiting in Paris?

  • Saint-Michel
  • Notre-Dame
  • Montmartre
  • Beaubourg
  • Pigalle
  • Bastille

Is it good to eat out in Paris? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Not really. But there are some nice things and from all over the world. So depending on your tastes that is a good thing (you should find what you want if you really search for it).

Is the nightlife good in Paris? Where is good to go?

Quite expensive. But Bastille is okay and nice for students. I also had some fun in the boat Concorde Atlantic. And in a lot of cases people drink at one's place first (one who has the chance to live in Paris).

What advice would you give future students heading to Paris?

Find a good combination to survive with the money you have.
