Experience in Paris, France by Morgane
What is it like to live in Paris? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend each student to do a year in Paris, because it's a beautiful city and the way of living are different in comparison to other cities.
The bad point is that if you go to Paris you will have to talk French because Parisian are very bad in English.
What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?
The student life is good but Paris is an expensive city.
The good point is that if you do the administration in a good way, you are able to have help.
How much does it cost to live in Paris?
The rent is expensive in Paris, actually most of the students live with their parents. There is not, even, many students residences.
For the food, you can find cheap supermarkets. The public transports are "normal", not so expensive, but they don't work during all night. There is a public bike service in Paris, so that is a good way to save money.
For the party, I think Paris is cheap, now I live in Copenhagen, so yeah, I think it is. If you want to go out, don't go to the tourist area, like privilege the North of Paris, Pigalle (South Pigalle), or even around the metro station Château d'Eau and everything would be perfect.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Is there any advice you can give?
I live with my parents.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is good. France is the country of gastronomy, so of course the food is good.
I don't have a favorite dishes.
You can find cheap food in the supermarkets.
Going to the restaurant is also good in Paris, because in each area you can find food from all around the world.
What places would you recommend visiting in Paris?
All the touristic areas.
And also, Paris is a good city for being lost, there is always a small street with charming coffee.
I lived in "Batignolles", there is not so much thing to do, but the restaurants are so good and the atmosphere reminds me a little village. Also, I recommend Pigalle and the South of the 9th arrondissement.
Is it good to eat out in Paris? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes indeed.
- Go to "Paris New York" for a good hamburger and for delicious fries with cheese.
- Chez Gladines is a good place where you can eat French food.
- Le BB des Batignolles, they make small dishes that you can share with friends.
- The Kebab in les Batignolles is the best kebab, I recommend it even if the waiting is long during lunchtime.
- Also "Babaganoush", that is a place with Mediterranean food.
- The thing to do if you are in Paris is take a "planche" of meat with a bottle of red wine.
- There is a restaurant around Pigalle call "Les Braisenville", which is a little bit expensive, but the food is really good. Also in "Le Marais" they are two restaurant that I like : "La Mangerie" and "Balls". Try them.
- And if you like Asian food I recommend to go to a street call "Rue St. Anne".
Is the nightlife good in Paris? Where is good to go?
Yes, avoid the tourist area.
At "Le Carmen" in Pigalle, and around the bar are good.
What advice would you give future students heading to Paris?
