Experience in Paris, France by Kiren
How did you find living in Paris? Do you recommend it? How is the city?
It's a lively city. You can't get bored no matter your personality. Introvert or extrovert, you will find joy in Paris.
How is student life in Paris?
Good atmosphere, good meetings. The old Parisians can be grumpy (but perhaps it's due to the weather) but not the young people!
How are living costs in Paris?
Paris is an expensive city, really... But there are a ton of good plans and booklets of good Parisian plans and places, etc! Basically, you get by very well.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Paris? Do you have advice to give?
That is difficult, yes. I advise drifting to the Parisian banlieue eventually and considering the money you will gain doing that! Then, a subscription to the Navigo card (transport) is unavoidable and much more economical than individual tickets when you want to get around.
How is the city's food? What are your favourite dishes?
Good but be wary of restaurants in ultra touristic areas... The price can sometimes be attractive and the meal, terrible.
My favourite dishes? Sushi, sushi, sushi. There are quite a few good Japanese restaurants in Paris!
What advice do you want to give to future Erasmus students in Paris?
(-) Be careful of pickpockets on public transport. They are very discrete.
If you are a young girl, don't go home alone in the evening! Basically, it's still a big city with advantages and disadvantages on this level.
(+) Think about doing away with conventional transport (metro or bus) and go on a bike ride or on foot. You will discover so much more!
