Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?

The French language and culture has always fascinated me, and it has always been my dream to speak French fluently. And Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it has a lot to offer and is perfect for students.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I'm studying in Paris for the whole Bachelor, for three years. I get about 100€ per month from the CAF to help me with paying the rent, and I got a nice room in a university residence.

What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?

Paris has a lot to offer for students, there are endless opportunities for your freetime. The entry to museums is mostly free for everyone under 26 years, and there are always amazing concerts and cultural events. You will get to know lots of other international students and have a great time. The only problem is that the city can be quite expensive, and you might spend a lot of money especially in the beginning, when you don't know the best places yet.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Paris to other students?

I would definitely recommend studying in Paris. It's a beautiful city and you will never ever get bored.

What is the food like?

Even though I sometimes miss the food of my home country, I'm really happy that I can enjoy French pastries, crêpes, cheese and wine every day.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?

I got a place in a private university residence for which I applied online. It's more expensive than the public ones, but still much cheaper than a flat. The CAF is giving me financial support every month for the residence.

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

Totally depends on your lifestyle. You can spend 700€ a month, but also easily more than 1000€. It totally depends on your accomodation, eating habits and if you like to go clubbing every week. But as a student, you benefit from many discounts.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I think every university in Paris offers free language courses, and I personally found it quite easy to quickly improve my French.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Paris from your city?

The TGV (high speed train) is a great way to get around France, it's extremely fast and not too expensive if you book early enough. Other ways to travel to Paris are for example BlaBlaCar (carsharing) or the airplane of course.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Paris?

I'd either go on one of the numerous concerts that take place in the city regularly or on a Erasmus party. The Parisian clubs are also definitely worth to be checked out.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Paris?

Restaurants can be quite pricy in Paris, the cheapest way to get a filling meal is mostly eating in a Kebab house. Otherwise, try to look for restaurants outside of tourist areas.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Almost too many! The Eiffel tower, the Louvre, Sacré Coeur, Notre Dame, Musée d'Orsay, Marché de St. Ouen, Castle of Versailles, Jardin du Luxembourg, le Marais, ...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Paris in the future?

"If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." - Ernest Hemingway
