Erasmus Experience in Paris, France by Rea
Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?
I wanted to study engineering and I saw that some of the best universities were in Paris. In addition I have some relatives here so it would be easier for me to adapt.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I dont have a scholarship, but I am in a public university( Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 6 Sorbonne), and the school fees are quite affordable.
What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?
Life is very busy here, like if you want to do good in school you got to focus a lot on studying. On the other hand, there are plenty of activies, soirées(party) during the weekends, or a lot of entertainments, like expositions, theater evenings, etc.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Paris to other students?
The city is great, you'll never get tired of Paris, there will always be something to do. Even if you just walk it makes you feel good. It's like the air is different in Paris.
What is the food like?
French food is well known for its high standards, little but delicious plates. For students there are lots of 'student's restaurants', where you can eat good and cheap food. Otherwise, a typical Parisian diner is not affordable every night by an average student; the prices are really high comparing to other Europe countries.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?
As I have my relatives here they helped me a lot to find a little appartement, but as far as I know it's not like super easy to get a flat or a studio.
How much does it cost to live in Paris?
Average accomodation cost monthly is 500 euros.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yeah I find French quite easy and living here is definitely the best course; practice helps you a lot, but of course there are plenty of French courses.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Paris?
For a night out in Paris I would recommend a oenophilian night, like it's great just sitting somewhere in a little cute bar and enjoying the variety of French wines. Another thing I love are night muséums; I find it interesting visiting art places during the evening. But even just walking in Quartier Latin, or Chapms Elysées for example would be great.
