Erasmus Experience in Paris, France by Paniz

Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?

Paris is the capital of Europe (second to London - my home town) and I wanted a working experience similar to what I would have in London, but with the Eiffel Tower to gaze at every once in a while.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I was only in Paris for 4 months, and living costs are extremely expensive, arguably the same as London. I received an Erasmus grant plus my salary from my internship, but it wasn't enough to survive on my own, particularly with housing prices through the roof, as I didn't want to be in a 'colocation' with others.

What is the food like?

Surprisingly, even though I was in France, I ate a minimal amount of French food, firstly because good French food is super expensive and secondly because there are so many restauarants with different cuisines in Paris - Italian + Japanese are the top 2 I would say. And both very tasty.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?

Yes. I had to pay agency fees. My year abroad was split into two, therefore I had to plan my accommodation before I arrived and the only way to do that was online through trustful agencies (as there are a lot of spammers and hoaxers who will try to sell you 'a lovely apartment in the 2e arrondisement for only 300 euros pcm.' It's a lie. Don't trust them.

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

I spent around 600 euros a month (but don't follow my advice as I am a big spender and probably don't live like a student as I should. I would say you would survive on 400/450 euros a month if you're on a tight-ish budget.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Paris?

Bastille. Definitely a lot of fun if you're into having a crazy night out, meeting a lot random strangers and enjoying a fun ambiance and good music.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Paris?

If you like sushi, go to Pyramides. Definitely the best sushi you can find in Paris. Otherwise everything else is good too.
