Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?

I really wanted to do an internship and I found one in Paris !!!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It was a 6.5 month long internship, I had a salary of about 540 euros per month but my rent was nearly double that !!

What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?

I didn't study, only work. But I have loads of friends who have been studying in Paris and the reaction has been mixed-negative in terms of the university quality and the ability to make French friends.

What is the food like?

I think French food varies - patisseries are amazing....baguettes, brioche au sucre....I can't get enough !!! Generally, in restaurants, the food is very good but they are expensive so I found myself cooking at home mostly. The big supermarkets such as Monoprix and Franprix are very very very expensive and offer much less choice than in the uk.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?

No, I was very lucky in that I found mine through air bnb. The flat is amazing and very homely and my flatmate (she is french!) is lovely and so so kind, I signed a 6 month contract very quickly and i really enjoy living with her and my room and kitchen, living room is fab !!

How much does it cost to live in Paris?

it's a lot !! Rent always takes up a lot but generally going out can be pricey if you don't budget. BUT i think for students, paris can be good - most galleries are free and there is always discounts for students for things like cinema, theatre and shows.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I think the French language is very very hard !! I speak french at work and at home but it is a struggle. I think my french has improved but im not fluent yet !

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Paris from your city?

For me, I always take the Eurostar because i live near London, you arrive in the central of Paris !

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Paris?

I quite like going to the bars in Le Marais or in by Canal St Martin, its very indie and relaxed ! For a music night out, there's a really cool gig place near Bastille called Supersonic !

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Paris?

I usually just go random bars.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

So many ! You can never get bored of Paris. I love the musée d'Orsay and there is a museum called Musée de l’histoire de l’immigration which is super interesting !

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Paris in the future?

I think it can be quite an adjustment ! I remember really hating Paris at first because I wasn't at university so it was a lot harder to make friends. My advice is to take your time and dont be too hard on yourself, it will get better with time. PLEASE make full use of French cinema (my fav thing to do !!!), theatre, opera, music because the culture is very very strong and beautiful !
