Erasmus Experience in Paris, France by Emilia
Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?
I went to France under the framework of the Erasmus + traineeship program. First of all, I wanted to improve my laboratory skills by joyning an interesting research group. I was also willing to practice my french and to have an experience abroad.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Six months. I am getting 400€ / month.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Paris to other students?
I would, if you can speak french ;)
What is the food like?
I am not really fond of french cuisine, but there are some specialities, like pastry and cheese, that are really good.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?
All accomodations in Paris are really expensive. My suggestion is to visit the place in person, because terrible rooms may be as expensive as good ones.
How much does it cost to live in Paris?
Living in Paris is very expensive. Luckily students can easily obtain a crous card, that can allow you to have lunch in one of the crous canteens (not always very tasty, but the food is quite good quality and affordable).
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I think there are language courses in my university, but I just did't found out, since I am really busy with my internship and I had already studied french before. Regarding my experience, I am working in a french-dominated speaking environment, so I am generally addressed in french. They repeat more slowly or in english only if they notice that I am confused or I haven't understood well.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Paris from your city?
By plane.
