Erasmus Experience in Paris, France by Dora
Why did you choose to go to Paris, France?
I chose France, because I wanted to develope my knowledge of French language, and Paris because it is simply beautiful and full with culture and history.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It started on 15th september, ends officially on 10th january. I received little less then 2000 euros, but I might pay back some, because I am not intend to come back for january.
What is the student lifestyle like in Paris?
Unfortunately it was a big disappointment for me. Maybe because in my school there is no erasmus class, therefore we are together with french students who are not always keen on having a chat. There is no community, students come to lesson and then go, they don't wan't to meet with each other after school in a café for example. I made friendship with only one slovak girl (erasmus also), however I am quiet extrovert.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Paris to other students?
I do not recommend Paris for students, unless they are loaded with money, and have endless patience for waiting in lines.
What is the food like?
I stayed in a dorm where I got dinner during weekdays. There were all kind of dishes, I liked it. Generally food is good quality and fresh.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Paris?
How much does it cost to live in Paris?
1000 euro per month at least.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
Well, those who have ever tried to learn french know that it is not the easiest language, but living in the french environment definitely helps a lot. There are courses in the University.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Paris from your city?
Plane.
