Sightseeing through Paris
Flirting with a Clown
The second day my Mum woke up quite early (as always) and wanted to have breakfast. I would have preferred to stay in bed for 1 hour or something, but as it was our holiday together and she could get quite annoying I got up, too, and took a shower. 30 minutes later - obviously she was starving again, we got down to have breakfast in the hotel. It was a small hotel in the city centre, so the breakfast room was also small, but it looked all quite delicious and I was very hungry.
We were almost the first ones there - it was 8 a. m. - and we enjoyed our breakfast. There was a large variety of bread, croissants, jam, fruits, juice, coffee etc. and I didn't know when we would eat the next time. After a while we went back to the hotel room shortly to get our bags and rain clothes (I didn't even bring my rain jacket... ) and started our tour. Because we only had three days left, I wanted to show to my Mum as many important things as possible, which would become very exhausting. We started at the Arc de Triomphe because it was only one metro station away from our hotel. Right after having left the metro, there was a man dressed as clown coming towards us and my Mum took a picture of the two of us - of course he wanted to have some money but he was so cute, and the picture is one of my favorite ones from my stay in France!
The Eiffel tower - from the ground
Because my Mum is afraid of heights we didn't get at the top of the Arc de Triomphe, we just took some pictures at the ground and went back to the metro station - we wanted to get to the Eiffel tower. After 20 minutes in the metro we arrived at Trócadero, the large place in front of the Eiffel tower. As it was still raining, we took a picture from the distance quickly and continued our way to the large sight. It was impressing every time I came there, but this time I didn't get up to the top, because my Mum didn't want to and I'd already seen it several times. I took some pictures of the nice carousel next to the tower and bought a (much too expensive) Crêpe because it was so cold.
Notre-Dame
Then, we walked 15 minutes to the next metro station - of course, you can go by foot a lot in Paris, but with all the rain, the metro is quite a comfortable way to move from one place to another. The Metro took us almost to Notre Dame which was the next sight I wanted to show my Mum quickly - with only one day it was hard to see everything in detail, but my Mum didn't care. She just wanted to spend time with me and see some places from Paris. So we walked to Notre Dame, took the obligatory photo and looked for a nice place to have lunch then. As next to sights everything uses to be expensive we had to walk a bit in order to find a nice little café where we had a sandwich and tried to get warm again.
Louvre and a very expensive dinner
For the afternoon we only wanted to go to Louvre and go to some stores around. As we are both not too interested in art we decided not to pay the entrance and go into the large museum - it's too expensive for just seeing the Mona Lisa (which I had already done some years before) and you would need one week to see all the other exhibitions. So we just took some pictures from outside and took the next metro back to Champs-Elysées. There, we had a coffee in a very expensive café (but it's expensive everywhere, so one euro doesn't make any difference) and walked a bit along the stores, entered in some and finally returned to the hotel to have a short break.
After we were relaxed again, we went out to look for a nice place to have dinner - as it was still raining, we didn't want to go so far away and chose a restaurant at the round point of Victor Hugo, just one street away from the hotel. We had some very delicious pasta and a small salad and enjoyed the end of the day. For the next day, the 1st of May we wanted to go to the business district La Défense.
