Erasmus Experience in Padua, Italy by Nuria

Why did you decide to go to Padua, Italy?

Totally by chance, randomly.

How long did you receive the grant for? How much money did you receive as aid?

I went there, firstly, with a grant for the first semester, but once there, I extended the grant for the whole course. The course in Padua ends in July.

What is the student atmosphere like in Padua?

It's a student town, so it's designed for them. The teachers are nice and they help Erasmus students a lot. The city is full of eateries where university students eat, and lots of libraries.

Would you recommend the town and the University of Padua to other students?

Without a doubt. I would recommend it 100%.

What is the food like there?

It is clear that, like in Spain, you don't eat anywhere else. There's a lot of pizza, too much pasta, a lot of kebabs...

Was it hard to find a place to live in Padua?

No, I went through ESU accommodation, which they have in Padua. I lived in a student residence, and it was one of the best things about my Erasmus.

How much does it cost to live in Padua?

Rent is around 300 euros a month.

How are you finding the language learning? Have you attended any course at university?

I didn't go to any courses. I arrived in Italy not having any knowledge of Italian at all. The first few weeks I felt a little lost, but then you learn quickly, and by the end of my Erasmus year, I had mastered it very well.

What is the cheapest way of getting to Padua from your city?

Ryanair.

What places would you recommend for going out in Padua?

Botellón (drinking casually with friends outside) in Piazza del Erbe, Café Madrid, Zanelatto, Le Queen, Fishmarket...

And for eating out in Padua? Can you offer some of your favourite places to dine?

¡El Tío Pepe!

And any cultural sights you'd visit?

The Basilica of Saint Anthony, the cultural centre in Padua, the Piazza del Signore... there are lots of beautiful cultural places.

Any advice you'd give to future students going to Padua?

Take warm clothes and go there willing to enjoy yourself! You'll love it!
