Live in between downtown core and your university. Otherwise your life will be quite boring, especially during the cold winter. If one likes shopping, there are plently locations to shop. However it all comes at a high price tag.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ottawa?

Boring, but lets you focus on the academic side. One can achieve anamazing proficiency in the field of language studies and linguistics. The city has a very diverse population, so one will always find a native speaker of whatever language he/she wants to learn.

How much does it cost to live in Ottawa?

Ottawa is a very expensive city to live, especially for students. The monthly rent for an apartment located relatively close to the campus can be as high as $900.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ottawa? Is there any advice you can give?

It is easy to find an accomodation in Ottawa. All one has to do is to join a Facebook group that corresponds to the chosen university. Many fellow students are always looking for roommates. Altenative choice would be to use kijiji.ca website (online advertisements for Ottawa).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Basic food is the way to go. The more simplicity one achieves at a table, the more one saves in $$$. Fast food restaurants, except maybe Subway, are very unhealthy and expensive. However it is always a good idea to buy a cup of coffee at a local Tim Hortons cafe.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ottawa?

Parliament Hill is a must. Also the museum of Civilizations on the other side of the river. Ottawa suburbs are really boring, there is nothing worth mentioning about them. The only good places are all in the downtown core.

Restaurants are expensive, thus my advice is to cook food for yourself.

Is the nightlife good in Ottawa? Where is good to go?

Nightclubs are all in the downtown. Tequila Jacks is one of the good places to go with friends if one likes loud music and something to loosen up.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ottawa?

Winters here are very harsh. Be prepared for cold wind blowing in your face and always wear hat in the winter time. If one knows French, the city has many career opportunities for you.
