Adventure time right outside of the city of Oslo

How to get to the park

Onward with my review of my trip to Oslo, on Sunday we went with some other guys about our age, a short trip right outside the city of Oslo, to the park with the exceptionally strange statues and the quite tall obelisk.

You can arrive there by using the metro line and then just 1-2 bus stops, it's like a 20-25 minute ride, it's not that even far from the center.

Statues in the park

Anyway, this park had a great number of statues made by Gustav Vigeland between the 20s and 40s. The sizes of the statues do not depict a regular human body, but they are much more heavy structures.

What is very interesting about this series of statues, is that each and every one of them, depict a stage in a person's life, beginning from childhood to older years. The thing that impressed me the most and that I found quite interesting, was all this movement and theatricality that filled these sculptures. Also, the fact that even though they are made from very heavy, stiff material they manage to seem like they are in continuous movement, going through various scenes in someone's life, creates a very smart controversy.

Moving forward, the basic attraction to this park is the very tall obelisk that is located in the center of the park. It is made by sculptures of human bodies, all embracing each other, making this huge structure. In my opinion, its meaning is that through someone's life, his own environment of relationships follows him during all of his years.
