What is it like to live in Novi Sad? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
In my opinion, Novi Sas is interesting city since it represents a true mixture of different cultures. It differs from the rest of Serbia since it was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire and therefore Novi Sad has architecture of central Europe.
What is the student lifestyle like in Novi Sad?
There are many parties organized by Faculties, departments or different students organizations. Mainly, students are living in apartments or in dorms.
How much does it cost to live in Novi Sad?
I suppose it is less expensive comparing to West European countries, but it is very similar to costs of Poland, for example.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Novi Sad? Is there any advice you can give?
I have never rented apartment in Novi Sad, but it can be done easily using Airbnb... On the other hand, Serbian people are very hostile. If you have acquaintances here, they would be eager to help you find something.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is amazing! They are many different restaurants serving different types of dishes, but my number one is definitely "pljeskavica" (Serbian hamburger).
What places would you recommend visiting in Novi Sad?
City center, of course, who wants to enjoy on architecture of 18th and 19th century, castle "Petrovaradin". There is one city near Novi Sad-Sremski Karlovci and mountain Fruska Gora which is called "Serbian Sveta Gora", since it has around 18 monasteries few centuries old.
Is it good to eat out in Novi Sad? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, you can find different restaurants, even international dishes. I would recomend restaurant "Fontana", "Sat", "Petrus".
Is the nightlife good in Novi Sad? Where is good to go?
Yes! People are very sociable here and night life is pretty important for us. There are many caffes, night clubs in city center, in the street "Laze Teleckog", on the castle "Petrovaradin" are few as well and additionaly during summer there are "splavovi" on Danube river. One important thing is that you should be prepared for Serbian music since there are no many places where you can listen to American music all night long.
What advice would you give future students heading to Novi Sad?
I think it wouls be perfect for you to be here at first part of July since the city is full of tourists who came on one of the biggest European festivals called Exit. It is a thing you shouldn't miss.
