What is it like to live in Novi Sad? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I would describe Novi Sad as perfect student city. With its 300, 000 inhabitants, large university, many young people, pubs, clubs, medieval fortress and beaches on the Danube river it is amazing place.

What is the student lifestyle like in Novi Sad?

I believe students in Novi Sad are very open minded, easy to work with and majority of them can speak English fluently. There are a lot of famous music festivals, parties and sport events during the year so nobody should get bored.

How much does it cost to live in Novi Sad?

In comparison to the majority of European cities and for example Belgrade, it is quite cheap. Rent is probably 30-50% cheaper than anywhere in Europe. Food and clothing are somewhat comparable to the rest of Europe but still not expensive. Prices in clubs and pubs are low and you can have awesome time with as little as 10 euro.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Novi Sad? Is there any advice you can give?

It depends on your preferences, but generally no. There are plenty of rooms, flats and even houses to rent. Since many students rent, I would advise people to start looking for flats as early as August or early September.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There is something for everyone I think. I would recommend people to try our barbecue dishes since it is different and I think better than anything you can try anywhere else in Europe. Of course we have many traditional dishes and I strongly recommend trying them all. We also have good wine and other beverages.

What places would you recommend visiting in Novi Sad?

Petrovaradin fortress, every pub in the city, Serbian National Theater, Danube park, beach on the river also...

Is it good to eat out in Novi Sad? Can you tell us your favorite spots?

Eating out for students mostly means eating in fast food and there are many spots basically everywhere you look around. For those who would like to enjoy a proper meal in restaurants, you have Italian, Indian, Chinese... anything you crave for. I am personally not a huge fan of eating out but there are plenty of options for those who enjoy it.

Is the nightlife good in Novi Sad? Where is good to go?

As subjective as it sounds I believe that the best nightlife is in big cities in Serbia. We have plenty of clubs that play everything from pop music, rock and roll to trance and hip hop. Drinks are cheap, and there is something for everyone. Again I would recommend all pubs, Laze Teleckog street and also many clubs that are not strictly in the city center.

What advice would you give future students heading to Novi Sad?

Prepare yourself for crazy parties, amazing people and hospitality that is unmatched anywhere else!
