Experience in Nicosia, Cyprus by Nicos

What is it like to live in Nicosia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is still considered to be one of the most safe Cities in the world. I would recommend it as a base from where you can travel all over Cyprus which a very beautiful country. They are so many new places cafe ,bars, restaurants, theaters, in old and new Nicosia which will offer a variety of entertainment to students

What is the student lifestyle like in Nicosia?

I am not a student any longer to know but of what I see from my nephews are having an excellent time being students and all

How much does it cost to live in Nicosia?

Used to be expensive , one of the most expensive in Europe , but right after the crisis everything has fallen down to normal prices and below that. Rent,food, coffee ,and most of the most needed products one can find depending of where one chooses to shop from.In Cyprus generally one can find anything sold at different prices depending of anybody's budget

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Nicosia? Is there any advice you can give?

After the crisis finding accommodation is the easiest to find and at more logical rent They are so many options due to the fact that locals and especially foreigners left Cyprus to search elsewhere for job. Also many young people went back to live with their parents. Students can search either on internet or through an agency to find accommodation. Me personally I have available two beautiful three bedroom apartments very closed to University of Cyprus ( kalipoleos ), Nicosia University and European university fully furnished ideal for erasmusu students. Both apartments are surrounded by all kind of stores ( supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants, coffee shops, butchery, bakery, and closed to bus stop )

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Nicosia one can find all kind of international cuisines Italian, Chinese , Japanese , Lebanese,French, Armenian, Spanish, Cuban,Thai, Russian and of course Greek and Cyprus dishes like gyros, schish kebab etc. Also all major franchise food stores are here in Nicosia like Mac Donald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Kentucky fried chicken , Taco Bells, T.G.I Fridays and more

What places would you recommend visiting in Nicosia?

The old Nicosia behind Walls which now is spurred with life , museums, shopping centers , malls, but most beautiful places are closed to the mountains, old villages etc
We used to accommodate 8 students from Lithuania in 4 months time they managed to travel all over Cyprus and managed to visit places I have never had the chance to see being a local. They had excellent time they enjoyed every day spent in Nicosia and in Cyprus in General

Is it good to eat out in Nicosia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Like I said before we have all kind of cuisine at different prices and likings. Personally I go especially in the old city where I can find good local food, fish taverns,
I can not name them as they are so many

Is the nightlife good in Nicosia? Where is good to go?

One thing we are good at is the night life that goes up to early morning hours
we have clubs, lounge bars,bars, and whatever big cities all have

What advice would you give future students heading to Nicosia?

You will not regret it if you come to my City. I advise you to come if you have the option during warmer months so you can visit our beautiful beaches which are the cleanest all over Europe
