Erasmus Experience in Nicosia, Cyprus by Paras
Why did you choose to go to Nicosia, Cyprus?
For higher studies.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My bachelor program is of approximately 4 years, education is not so expensive here but living will be quite difficult for normal students.
What is the student lifestyle like in Nicosia?
Students are mostly Asians, as I am from Asia too. You can't even get a part time job unless you are EU card holder.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Nicosia to other students?
I will say no
What is the food like?
Food is all Greek and in some restaurants you can get all types of food you can think of.
Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Nicosia?
Years ago it was not a problem for students to find an accommodation but in the past few months/years, finding accommodation is becoming big problem for every international student. Even if you find a one it will not have good connections with public transport or it might be too far from the university.
How much does it cost to live in Nicosia?
My monthly expense is around 400€, it depends on the person. I will say between 300 and 500€ is what you will need, including rent, bills, transport, food, etc.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
In university the language they use is English, but outside classes most of them don't understand because the mother tongue of this country is Greek.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nicosia?
In the weekend, I recommend going downtown which is the old city of Cyprus and also very busy in the weekend.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Nicosia?
For eating if you are a good cook you can prepare food at home rather than choosing restaurants. A good place for restaurants is downtown.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Museum, downtown etc.
Museum of Nicosia:
What advice would you give future students heading to Nicosia?
If you are looking to come to Cyprus I will recommend to do it for studying purposes. It's ok only if your family can afford all your expenses here in Cyprus.
