Erasmus Experience in Nicosia, Cyprus by Justina
Why did you choose to go to Nicosia, Cyprus?
That's gonna be a surprise for you, but honestly, I chose Cyprus for studying. I thought the curriculum matches studies at my home uni quite well. To my surprise and happiness, I got way much more there - I saw life I have never imagined myself to enjoy. I met people I shall never forget. I saved the best memories of my life and lived with them through cold cold winter after coming back home. Im telling you - sun does actually do magic. :)
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Scholarship covered maybe only 1/2 of all expenses. But I was attenting each party, spending evenings in cafes, drinking frappe at uni, traveling, etc. If you really want to spend your time well, you need a good investment. :)
What is the student lifestyle like in Nicosia?
Partying, traveling, eating amazing food, going by the sea, meeting other erasmus and so on :)
Would you recommend the city and the University of Nicosia to other students?
I would definetely recommend living in Cyprus for a while. It's life changing.
What is the food like?
If you haven't been to Pandora, you don't know what it's like to have proper after party breakfast :)
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Nicosia?
No, I did it by myself, I contacted the owner directly.
How much does it cost to live in Nicosia?
I would say it's about 800 euros per month. Depends where you live.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
Almost everyone is speaking English, so you really don't have to worry about that :)
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Nicosia from your city?
Straight flight to Paphos from Kaunas.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nicosia?
Follow other eramsus fellows and you wont regret it ;)
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Nicosia?
Pandora.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Each and every corner of the island :) Aphrodite's beach, Protaras, Famagusta, etc.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Nicosia?
There's a bit of a problem with hot water. SInce water is heated using sun batteries, at 'winter' time you need to use extra power (electrical heating), so you can get water of proper temperature. This takes time and brings you impressive electricity bills...
