Why did you choose to go to Nicosia, Cyprus?

I chose to go to Nicosia, Cyprus because it is has a very interesting situation regarding international relations/my study program.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

You receive 360 a month for four months, which should cover accommodation (or most of accommodation) if you find a reasonably priced place.

What is the student lifestyle like in Nicosia?

You can probably find what you are looking for. If you wish to party all the time, you can do that. If you want to go to interesting lectures and hipster cafes, there is also that. Making friends with local students is a bit challenging, though.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Nicosia to other students?

Nicosia is a really nice city. It may be small, but it is still a European capital, and there is nice mix between the old, the new, and the places that are still untouched after the war. It is also very safe. If you want to go to places that are truly interesting, but untouched/not gentrified, this is the place. Even after living here for a while, there are constantly new places to discover.

What is the food like?

There are lots of places for going out to eat, and many at reasonable prices. If you like greek and middle eastern food, you will be no short of options. The meat here is much tastier than that in Northern Europe. There are many good options for cheese, including the local specialty, halloumi.

How much does it cost to live in Nicosia?

You can find accommodation for everything included at 360-370, but also up to 100 less and 100 more. The places you can get at the standard price are usually good enough and the ones that cost more are usually not worth it.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Greek is not easy at all, even though I could take a course at my university. If you are white, very few people will automatically speak Greek with you.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Nicosia from your city?

From continental Europe, flights are the only reasonable method.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Nicosia in the future?

Make sure that you live in a place with good bus connections (that go at a reasonable time), or get a bike. The public transport in Nicosia is not good after living in Northern Europe, though it is affordable. Biking also can be scary at first, as Cypriot drivers are not used to anything but cars, so you have to be very aware and careful.
