My Experience in New York, United States - by Jon
What's it like living in New York? Would you recommend it?
New York is a temporary city. Of course, you can stay here permanently if you want to, but it's definitely a city for living in temporarily. Despite this, I'd recommend it 100%.
What's the student life like in New York?
There are lots of faculties, uptown and downtown, which are both full of the several of the most prestigious universities in the United States. The city lives and breathes the student lifestyle.
How expensive is living in New York?
In reality, it's an expensive city, but there are loads of places where the prices are normal - supermarkets, loads of restaurants with offers on, bars with Happy Hours...
Did you find it hard to find somewhere to live in New York? Do you have any advice for flat-hunting?
The best advice I can give you is to get in contact with us. We'll make a lot of stuff easier for you. We offer various studios and apartments in Chelsea at very affordable prices compared with what you might find in this city. The accommodation problem centers mainly around the fact that landlords ask for a lot of proof to ensure that the tenants will pay. Others demand that the full rent of all the month the tenant will be staying be paid upfront, which is a huge financial drain.
What's the food like in the United States? What are your favourite dishes?
Now we can get serious. I think it's the capital city with the most culinary variety in the world. Amazing! Let's not focus on the typical United States food, which is junk food. If you go out to eat or dine it's easier to find somewhere to eat healthily.
My favourite dish is sushi.
What places would you recommend visiting in New York?
There's lots to visit, so apart from the typical recommendations, I'd recommend you get to know the streets and alleyways. You'll get lost if you don't have a map walking around, and discover all the millions of things there is to see in New York.
What about eating out in New York? What are your favourite places?
My favourite places? Republic, Vanessa's Dumplings...
What are the best places for partying in New York?
There are also endless places to lose yourself in the New York nightlife. Meatpacking, East Village, Williamsburg, Lower East Side, Chelsea...
Do you ave any advice for future students coming to New York?
The only advice I'd like to give you is to enjoy the city and be alert. If you need someone to help you find accommodation, the only thing you have to do is send us an email at [email protected] or [email protected]. We have a large range of studios, rooms and apartments. You can also find one of our available places on Erasmusu.
