What is it like to live in New York? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I have lived in New York for about 6 years and have loved every minute of it. However, to enjoy New York to the fullest there are certain obstacles or prices one sometimes has to pay.

Nightlife can be amazing. I have partied it up with huge celebs. royalties and sport stars for free. However, unless you fit in to the guidelines of how "one should look" then you either have to have a fat wallet or know the right people.

But there is no need to be sad if you're not the Meat Packing material - There are plenty of cool bars in the whole city, there are so many cool places that you don't even have time to see it all during your stay anyways.

What is the student lifestyle like in New York?

Student life in New York is hard. You need to have discipline to be able to focus on school when there are always so many things to do 24/7.

It's also hard if you don't have a large savings account or parents to help pay for the extremely high rent.

Other than that, it's always easy to find cheap food and drinks. They might not be the most healthiest choice.

How much does it cost to live in New York?

Rent for a room in an apartment somewhat close to manhattan warries from 900-1600 US dollars.

It's not harder than any other city.

You can find rooms or apartments through: Roommatchers.com, Craigslist, different facebook groups like the scandinavian site "Bopoolen NYC", or "Room & roommates in New York City".

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

If there is something you like, you can find it in New York.

There are all sorts of Asian food, middle eastern food, South American food, Central American food, African food, Scandinavian food and all of the good comfort food like the American Hamburger.

What places would you recommend visiting in New York?

Williamsburg, Harlem, West village, East village, Chelsea, Broolkyn Hights, Dumbo.

You have to eat out. Kafana (Serbian), Miss Lily's (Jamaican), Juniper (American), SEA (Thai), Red Rooster (Swedish).

What advice would you give future students heading to New York?

Plan ahead, have a budget, find local friends right away and don't hang out with your own country people, something you can do at home. Take a chance and be open to try new things and you will be able to experience the most life changing events in your life.
