Erasmus Experience in Naples, Italy by Cristina
Why did you choose to go to Naples, Italy?
It wasn't my first choice of destination and I didn't know what it was like.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
5 months. I got €400 a month as I was on the Ministry of Education grant already.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Naples to other students?
No.
What was the food like there?
The only good thing is the pizza, the rest of the food is battered (even the spaghetti).
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Naples?
It's ok, but they'll try and scam you whenever they can.
How much does it cost to live in Naples?
About €600 a month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
In Madrid, yes, but they speak a dialect. Like people speaking Catalan instead of Spanish, people speak Neapolitan instead of Italian.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Naples from your home city?
A direct flight.
Where would your recommend for a night out in Naples?
La Mela, Galería, Toma and the Greenwich.
And to eat in Naples? What are some of your favourite places to go?
'Dal presidente' (although they do charge foreigners more there) and the Valú.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The castles are awesome and the Lungomare.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Naples in the future?
Put it as your last option, it's like post-war Spain and they try and rob you anywhere you go and at any time of day. My mobile phone lasted 30 minutes in Naples and no more than that, I got off the bus from the airport and it was stolen, and it's not an uncommon occurrence, since 80% of the Erasmus students have been robbed or mugged here.
