It's what people travel thousands of miles to Montreal to taste! Though they may associate Montreal and Quebec with French-Canadian delicacies, and they are delicious, like poutine and tourtiere, Montreal is actually famous for two other foods: bagels, and, of course, smoked meat!

Though I was born and raised in Montreal, I cannot get enough of this place. Schwartz's was founded in 1929 by a Jewish immigrant. Located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of Montreal, it has remained virtually unchanged over the years. The delicatessen remains small and tight, and there is usually a lineup on any given day at any given time. Service is quick, and the smoked meat is absolutely delicious. The meat is tender and delicious, and the prices are excellent. I have met people in line that had flown from Europe and Asia just to come to this delicious delicatessen, and it is a must for everybody visiting Montreal.
