The Jean Talon Market

This market is another of the places worth visiting in Montreal. It is named this in honour of the first mayor (meaning governor) of the New France (as the province of Quebec was named during the French invasion, just like Mexico was the New Spain, they were the New France).

Well, dropping the history a bit and returning to tourism, you can find a whole variety of fruit, vegetables, flowers, aromatic herbs, etc. in this market. What's more, in it's surroundings there are different traders set up so you can also find fish markets, bread markets, cheese shops and butchers, etc. Of course, there is a Mexican restaurant in this market itself (you're going to say that I always end up talking about food, hahaha) called Le Roi du Taxo (translation: The taco king. I think all the Mexican restaurants abroad feel obliged to use the word 'taco' in their names :p). I will speak to you about this place another time ^^.

Long live Quebec!

The Jean Talon Market

Many colours :)

Returning to the main point of this article, the Jean Talon market is easily accessible, thanks to the metro station of the same name.

Something I recommend you to buy here is the maple syrup sweets (or maple syrup), which are typical in Quebec. They're a very good memory of the Beautiful Province. They aren't expensive and you can share them with your family and friends. As well as tasting delicious, the sweets are shaped characteristically as the maple leaf: a symbol of Canada.

You can buy maple syrup here too. There are several stalls where they sell these products so it will be up to you to buy from where is the cheapest, although most of them have the same price. Now of course, I recommend you to buy the syrup and the maple syrup sweets in this market because they are cheaper here than in the centre of Montreal, or in the other souvenir shops.

Maple sweets :)

The market is open from Monday to Sunday. It's open from 7AM until 6PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 7AM to 8AM on Thursdays and Fridays and from 7AM until 5PM on Sundays only.

In conclusion, The Jean Talon market is another point of Montreal that you have to visit; either to wander around, to buy souvenirs or to eat. :)
