Some Classy and Cultured Fun in La Belle Provence

Published by flag-ca Maria Gonzalez — 4 years ago

From a very young age, I have always been an art-lover. I have always loved studying art, learning about art history, going to art galleries, and admiring art from all periods, and all styles.

I have always heard and read positive reviews about the Museum of Fine Art in Montreal. And being the art-lover that I am, I just had to go and see it for myself. I did not get the chance to go the Museum of Fine Art until I was nineteen years old! My first time ever visiting the Museum of Fine Art in Montreal was in mid-February 2016. It was a very chilly day.

I was actually quite lucky, as I came at just the right time. The Museum of Fine Arts had just started its amazing Pompeii exhibition! The Pompeii exhibition was absolutely amazing. The exhibition actually had the human-casts of people that remained from the dried lava of the Mt. Vesuvius volcano. The exhibition also had an interactive, movie-like room, with a time-lapse, that gave you an idea of when the volcanic eruption happened, when it happened, and what it looked like. It also had art, artifacts, and everyday objects found in Pompeii used by people of the ancient civilization. I learned so much!

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is located quite close to downtown - midtown, rather. It is not at all hard to access. If you are staying downtown, it is easily walkable. But, if you do not feel like walking that day, you can easily take the bus, or take the metro.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is a beautiful building, so it is hard to miss. I would actually recommend visiting this museum on a sunny day, as the building has lots of windows, including a glass roof in some areas of the museum - a sunny day would ensure the best light to take some nice photos.

The good thing about Montreal is that getting and being cultured is relatively cheap. If you are an adult, a ticket will cost you around $14CAD - which is actually a very good price. However, if you are a student, it is even better for you. Student tickets cost around $10CAD. If you buy a ticket to a certain exhibition, you not only have access to that particular exhibition, but also the rest of the permanent exhibitions throughout the museum! So, for about $10CAD, you can literally spend an entire day at the museum, admiring art, and learning a lot about history. So, do not forget your Student Card, or Student ID!

Tip: Montreal has lots of student discounts, so bring your Student Card everywhere you go!

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts also offers a variety of guided museum tours. They also have programmed listening devices, if you want to do a self guided tour. And, they also have wheelchairs for people with limited movement. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is a very accomodating facility, so you can rest assured that all your needs will be taken care of. I ensure you that you will have a lovely day at the art museum.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts always manages to bring amazing exhibitions to Montreal. I would strongly recommend that you see the main exhibitions, as they truly are educational.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is also a great idea for a date with your special someone! On another note, on Thursday evenings, many museums and galleries in Montreal are free, meaning that anyone can come in and partake in getting educated. These museums and galleries are great for people of all ages.

Like all museums, there are permanent exhibitions, and there are temporary exhibitions. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts does its best to keep the temporary exhibitions around for as long as possible. You can always check here for current and upcoming exhibitions, as well as prices and packages!

Happy museum hopping!
