Cristina's Erasmus Experience in Momtpellier, France

Why did you choose to go to Montpellier, France?

Because I've always been in love with France, the language and cities like Paris. I wanted to keep learning more about the country, and try to master the language.

How long did you stay last?

5 months.

What's the student atmosphere like in Montpellier?

There are lots of students.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Montpellier to other students?

At my university (Sup de Co) - you should choose subjects in English only if you know English - the professors and students generally speak it to a very high standard. The same high standards apply for the quantity of projects they ask of you during the course...

Also you should attend all classes, they monitor attendance and the evaluation is continuous.

What's the country's cuisine like?

It's good, but very expensive.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Montpellier?

No, they provided help.

What's the cost of living like in Montpellier?

Quite high, but the quality of life is quite high too.

How did you find the language? Did you attend any course at the University?

I had some knowledge of the language before going, but when I arrived I felt a bit lost, because people spoke so quickly! Now I'm much better.

The university gave very useful French courses in both the first and second semesters.

What's the cheapest way of getting to Montpellier from your city?

I always went by train. It wasn't very cheap, but it was the best way as it took me to the station which is right in the city centre, where you can catch any onward train to where you live.

Where would you recommend for going out in Montpellier?

Panamá, Cargo, Australian...

And what about your favourite places to eat?

Whichever creperie, although the ones in the street tend to be a bit expensive

And what about cultural sights?

The Faculty of Medicine, The Cathedral of St. Peter.

Any advice you'd give to future Erasmus students in Montpellier?

Enjoy it!
