Pretty Laureles: El Poblado without the Gringos

Translated by flag-gb Shavana Peynado — 4 years ago

The stadium is the center of Laureles, the pretty town with the imperial name, the laurel district. Like the Poblado, we walk along the canals, tiny jungles where there is bamboo and at night - it glows, green and fluorescent, while restaurants and bars are full with cheerfulness. South of the stadium, at the station Alpujarra, in the center of a triangle formed by Medellín University, at the West, the Nutibara Hotel, near the river, and the Stadium to the north, is the UPB, Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, another prestigious private university in the city, where sometimes wonderful exhibitions are organised.

North of the UPB is the Tibiri Bar, salsa bar in the basement, an interesting alternative to Eslabon, which is on the other side of the river. Also, slightly to the west, Primer and Segundo Parques de Laureles, 200 meters from each other, on both sides of the Transversal 39B called Nutibara, which comes next along the UPB. Populated with beautiful and strange trees, surrounded with tienditas and bars like Paris in Llamas, "Paris en Flammes" (Avenida 39D # 73-70, Primer Parque), where sometimes the groups Local, the parks of Laureles are a hideout for beer and ganja, where to get lost in endless conversations.

On the other side of the university, near the Nutibara Gate, is one of those innumerable tienditas (small shops) where the Colombian soul sings. El Proveedor (Carrera 71 # 39A-43), with the competitive price of amber rum, is the prophetic "purveyor" of the desire for drunkenness of the entire student population of the UPB... There is, finally, on the other side of the Avenida Bolivariana, on the border between Laureles and Belén, five minutes from the Unicentro mall, the Parque Malibu (Carrera 68), where at dusk the bats hover over each other.
