Plage du Fortin
Get away from the city
This lovely wee beach is just a 15 minute bus ride along the coast from Marseille.
It is the perfect place to go for a party, to sunbathe, to chill during the day or to go and have a BBQ. When we arrived there were people playing music at the top of the beach which gave it a fun atmosphere, but still loads of families so quite relaxed. There were also burger and pizza vans selling food.
The view from near the road at the top as you make your way down is really pretty - you can see Marseille in all its glory to one side, the aquaduct bridge to another, the beach and the sea. Its worth staying for the sunset too. Although this beach was quite busy it didnt have a crowded vibe, it was very easy to find a space and there wasnt much shouting or anything going on, it was still quite relaxed.
There are picnic benches and bbq areas on the path coming down to the beach, and a sandy cove area to sit and sunbathe at the bottom. We even saw people fishing and BBQing the fish that they had caught! Quite impressive especially because of the noise which apparently didn't scare away the fish at all.
We did see people drinking here too so I think it would be the ok place for a party as long as you are respectful of the families having fun around you, and later at night I'm sure that this changes, it all depends on when the last bus home is or if you have another way to get back.
