The Palais Omnisports in Marseille is a great place to do something that you wouldn't really expect to do in a city in the south of France. My friends and I visited this place a couple of time to go ice skating! The area is home to the local Marseille ice hockey team, but they also open the area up to people who want to go ice skating!
You have to check the opening hours however as they can change quite a bit depending on whether or not the ice hockey team is playing at home. It is not too expensive at all to go there and it's really nice to try something that doesn't involve the sun and sea in Marseille! Just be sure to bring a pair of gloves as they are compulsory if you want to skate. If you don't have gloves you can always just use a pair of socks however!
The main skating area is a large circular ice rink that has more than enough space to facilitate a lot of people. However if you are lucky, sometimes they will open the ice hockey rink to the public as well so that you get to see what it is like to skate where actual ice hockey matches are played. They also set up lots of games on the ice hockey rink like a badminton net as you can see above. You can also use some ice hockey sticks to see if you have what it takes to be a ice hockey player! This was the best part of the experience for me as I was not expecting it at all!
There are a number of other activities that you can do at the arena as well as ice skating. There is also a large skate park there where you can go Skateboarding or BMXing. You can also go watch a ice hockey match as well if you want! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something different in Marseille!
