What is it like to live in Maribor? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Maribor is a great city, with a lot of things to offer. There are a lot of clubs and bars to go out to, restaurants have good food and they are not too expensive. If you are there in the summer you must visit Festival Lent, that is when the city really comes alive. Also on weekends there are great parties in street called Poštna ulica. I would recommend watching at least one football game, because Maribor has a team that plays in Europa League and the atmosphere is great.

What is the student lifestyle like in Maribor?

Maribor is full of students and living there is not so expensive as in Ljubljana, where the prices are higher. The best parties for students are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and of course on weekends. If you plan to study in Maribor, you must attend an event called Lampijončki. It is a traditional student event held in May and it lasts through whole day and night. At night there are concerts in place called Mariborski otok (The Island of Maribor) which is not far from the city, so you can walk there.

How much does it cost to live in Maribor?

The prices vary. The dorms are not so expensive, I think the price is around 100 euros more or less per month, but if you want to live in a flat, the prices are higher (from 150 to 250 euros per month) and depend on the type of room (single rooms are more expensive than shared rooms).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Maribor? Is there any advice you can give?

I think it is not so difficult to find a place to stay, but I believe most Erasmus students live in dorms, which are the best choice to get to know other people.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is very diverse, you have a lot of options and the best thing is that meals are subsidised for the students from the country in many restaurants all around Slovenia.

What places would you recommend visiting in Maribor?

Festival Lent (it is in July), Lampijončki, ride with a boat on Drava river, student parties in KMŠ, Fuego, Tacos, Club +-, etc.

Is it good to eat out in Maribor? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, the food is great, it can also be delivered to your address, if you don't feel like going out. Great places to eat are Cantante, Takos, Rico Torres (Mexican food), Vivaldi, Barilla and Al Pachino have great pizzas, there are also many good restaurants in Europark (shopping centre).

Is the nightlife good in Maribor? Where is good to go?

Yes, it is great, people love to party. Great places for students are Fuego, Takos, Club +-, KMŠ, Niagara, Piranha and many more. For more alternative scene there is Jazz club Satcmo, which is really great and maybe also MC Pekarna. Club with Balkan music is called Podroom.

What advice would you give future students heading to Maribor?

It is a great city with nice people and I believe you will have an excellent time there. Slovenia is a small country so I also recommend you to visit Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj etc., because it is not far. I suggest you use this website to find cheap transportation from city to city.
