Erasmus Experience in Lund, Sweden by Juliana
Why did you choose to go to Lund, Sweden?
Big and very good university, campus life, good campus parties and environment, Sweden is a good place to be at.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I don't have a scholarship, but don't pay my masters because I have an European passport.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lund?
Very busy, but mostly bachelors. There's always parties, pubs and clubs in the Nations which are cheaper, and several corridor parties. Nations make sure there are plenty of events to participate. If you'd like an older public (24-25 up), then maybe you can go to Malmö (15 minutes in a train)
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lund to other students?
Yes, it's fun and comfortable and beautiful. The only downside is the price.
What is the food like?
There are several restaurants but I have not been to many.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lund?
A little bit but not too long - I am renting a room in a private house. For student housing it took a bit longer but I was placed in one anyways.
How much does it cost to live in Lund?
Around 3. 600-4. 2000sek.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Language is not easy unless you speak similar ones (Danish, Norwegian, even Germans can understand some Swedish). There are courses in the university (free for transfer students) and from the government (free as soon as you get your personal number).
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lund from your city?
The only possibility is airplane (I'm from Brazil).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lund?
The nation called "Lund's nation" has a nice penthouse with a small club and "cheap" (for Swedish standards) drinks. Malmö has lots more to do an see and open later.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lund?
Scania, in Malmö.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Several, the most important is Lunds Cathedral, then the museum, MAlmö, and Copenhagen is just 30 minutes away by train.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lund in the future?
The cold is not the worse, but the darkness. It gets dark around 16 in the worse days, and it's still dark right before 8am. So it's a good idea to make friends and have plenty to do (shouldn't be a problem in an university town). If you're planning on coming by yourself and only study and not make any friends, then it might get a bit depressing.
