What is it like to live in Lund? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lund is a great city to live in as a student. It's easy to make new friends and get engaged in several different activities. You can basically live anywhere as long as you have a bike since Lund is quite small.

What is the student lifestyle like in Lund?

The student lifestyle permeates the whole city. Approxmiately half of the population in Lund are students and their lifestyle is therefore well integrated within the city. As a student you get access to the Nations, where you can go out (and drink without get bankcrupt), get involved in different social activites and find new friends. What I find to be the best thing about Lund is its people, they're friendly and outgoing and not afraid to meet new people!

How much does it cost to live in Lund?

You will have to pay around 2500-6000 per month for your accommodation in Lund. The cheapest way to live is to share a flat with two-three friends to keep the rent down. The living costs are relatively small, it will - of course - always depend on how much you eat and drink. You'll find cheap lunches, dinners and brunches at the Nations (35-50 SEK). A busride costs around 20 SEK within the city, but I strongly recommend that you buy a bike. Otherwise is Lund as expensive/cheap as the rest of Sweden. If you like cheap vegetables I would recommend a small store just behind Åhléns (in the city center). You'll have to pay 60 SEK for a beer in the city (as usuall prices)

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lund? Is there any advice you can give?

It is difficult if you don't know anyone in Lund. If the University doesn't fix an accommodation for you I would recommend these websites:

  • BLOCKET (where you should put up an ad telling you seek accommodation).
  • Facebook! FACEBOOK/

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Lund is famous for its Falafel. For only 35 SEK you can keep youself fed for the whole year (and it's even better in Malmö). There are many differents restaurants, a lot of vegetarian alternatives.

What places would you recommend visiting in Lund?

As a tourist Lund is very beautiful and old-fashioned, but you are done with your sightseeing in one day. Domkyrkan is one of the oldest churches in Sweden and well worth a visit. The University Library is very beautiful during the autumn. Outside the main city center there are a lot of "scenic" places. A "must see" is Rinnebäcksravinen, which is situated in the western part of Lund, just next to Blekinge Nation and the student place Vildanden. It's a canyon which reminds me of the Shire, Frodo's home.

Is it good to eat out in Lund? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It's great to eat out in Lund, but it's expensive. I would say the best time to do it is during lunchtime, when the prices are lower. These are my favourite spots:

  • Rå Epok, Sushi (both lunch and dinner)
  • Buljong, soups (lunch)
  • Govindas, Indian vegetarian and vegan (lunch)
  • Lundafalafeln, Falafel (lunch, dinner and breakfast)

Is the nightlife good in Lund? Where is good to go?

If you're a student you can go out at the Nations all days except Sundays and Mondays. The Nations are cheap and often crowded with a lot of drunk Swedes (since this is often our first encounter with cheap alcohol). Otherwise there are a few clubs where non students are welcome; Herkules, Mejeriet, T-bar. If you want to go to "real" clubs Malmö (the thrid biggest city in Sweden) is only 20 min away with train.

What advice would you give future students heading to Lund?

Bring practical clothes! The wheather in Lund is ongoing windy, rainy, sunny and cloudy. Buy a bike and get engages in all sorts of organisations. I would recommend The Association of Foreign Affairs (UPF), which is an english speaking organisation where you will meet swedes and exchange students from all backgrounds.
