Erasmus Experience in Lund, Sweden by Michaela
Why did you choose to go to Lund, Sweden?
I chose Sweden because I have wanted to explore Scandinavia for a long long time. Lund is one of the best universities in Europe.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship lasted for 5 months and I recieved 450 euros per month. It covered the rent of my room at Spoletorp South.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lund?
It was amazing. The social life is very well organized and diverse and there is a lot of activities and social events to choose from. Mentor groups take a great care of the students and I never felt left out or isolated.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lund to other students?
I would. The city is beautiful, full of sweet little coffee shops and cobble stone streets and beautiful University area and center...
The school is well organized and teachers are helpful and nice.
What is the food like?
I cooked my own food all the time but sometimes I went out for sushi. Which was delicious! There is a lot of fresh, delicious sea fish to choose from which was amazing for me.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lund?
It was quite a journey. I didn't get an accommodation through the accommodation office at first. So I found a private flat I hated and in the middle of my time in Lund I tried the accommodation office once more and got the room at Spoletorp South.
How much does it cost to live in Lund?
It costs a lot. I paid around 400 euros for accommodation, 50 euros for the transport, and some 500 euros for food and entertainment.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language courses are available and quite good. The language is easy for German speaking people... for the rest, not so much.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lund from your city?
The easiest is plane. The cheapest is the bus. But it is not worth the cramps in the legs.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lund?
To the clubs run by the Nations, Hercules bar or Cafe Ariman.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lund?
Sushi 2 go.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The cathedral, museum, museum of sketches, galleries, theatre.... and then there is Malmo just a few minutes away by train and Copenhagen an hour away by train.
What more is there to wish for?
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lund in the future?
Get a bike and breath deeply. The air is wonderful and clean. Get a good raincoat and waterproof boots and learn that the rain isn't an obstacle to going out and have fun. Enjoy the coffee like the Swedes do. And go see the countryside and participate at festivals and traditions. Its fun.
Good luck and enjoy!
