Erasmus Experience in Lund, Sweden by Grég
Why did you choose to go to Lund, Sweden?
I wanted to know about Sweden, and the city is really beautiful. It's a small city, so, if you like to move a lot, choose a bigger one, although Malmo is close, ten minutes by train and you have everything there (shopping in Malmo is super great, there are many malls and the city is beautiful aswell like every city in Sweden, I love it).
The parties are not so good because there is only one club organised for the students (in Lund) but they have low prices and everybody is having fun. But, I think if you are older than 20-21 years old, it is going to be too young for you.
Sweden is really expensive, so if you are broke already do not go there but this country is beautiful, I don't regret my choice even if I wanted to party so bad! In Lund you can go ice skating, gym, and shopping too. There are many shops and many really great parks in spring and summer. You need to bike a lot.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Almost 6000 euros for 9 months.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lund?
Gym, study and party.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lund to other students?
Yes, if you are young. Over 21 it is more difficult for myself.
What is the food like?
Normal, they have lots of cookies and candies.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lund?
It was terrible to find an accomodation, they are only students there.
How much does it cost to live in Lund?
A lot, I think an average of 3500 sek (360 euros) per month for the rent. About the food, if you dont eat outside the price can be 1200 sek (125 euros aproximately).Besides, the expenses of going out, buy your bike, train ticket, visit of the country, restaurant, parties. If you don't do these things, you are going to be depressed and bored because that is the only thing you can do.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, there are many language courses. It is easy to bear with swedish but impossible to speak for myself. Everybody speaks English very well, though.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lund from your city?
By bike! Get your bike.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lund?
VG nation is the best on wednesdays. After you have Hercules on saturdays, it is not bad (but they play commercial music and it i expensive, although on wednesdays it is free and they play hip hop and RNB songs)
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lund?
I like Hummus bar (vegan bar).
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Cathedral, although every place is very beautiful.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lund in the future?
It is going be a great adventure, even if not everything corresponds to what you expected.
