Experience in Los Angeles, United States by M.C.
What is it like to live in Los Angeles? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It's cool. There's a lot to do and the city is huge so having a car is a plus. Public transportation is not the best, but if you're willing to learn how to get around in the bus/metro and endure the commuting times patiently, then you could see a lot of cool places.
What is the student lifestyle like in Los Angeles?
Depends on which school you go to. UCLA has a great student life, USC does too. Private schools also have a great student life, depending on the area and a car definitely enhances the experience.
How much does it cost to live in Los Angeles?
It varies depending on the area in which you would like to live. Generally speaking, a one room apartment will cost you at least 700-800 usd and that's at the lower end of the spectrum in not so great areas. It's a bit expensive because of rent.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Los Angeles? Is there any advice you can give?
If you can dorm then that's probably your best option. If you'd like to live off campus, then it's best to find some roommates to split the rent with.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
There are so many different foods to try in L. A. You could find just about everything here and the taco/food trucks are a must. They offer just about everything, from expensive lobster dishes to cheap but delicious tacos.
What places would you recommend visiting in Los Angeles?
Downtown, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Griffith Park, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, and Hollywood.
Is it good to eat out in Los Angeles? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, Cacao Mexicanessen, El Huarache, and Cafe de Leche in Eagle Rock, happy hour in the bars of Downtown L. A. like the Perch and Mo-Chica. If you check out the LA Weekly website they have the Top 10 L. A. spots for just about everything, bars, taco/food trucks, coffee, etc.
Is the nightlife good in Los Angeles? Where is good to go?
Yeah, there are tons of clubs throughout the city.
What advice would you give future students heading to Los Angeles?
You'll like it here, especially the weather.

hi. thanks for sharing your experience. there is nothing that I decide yet but I want to study in Los angeles. I am thinking to go there for the next year. what I am wondering is if I have erasmus from Turkey to America or not. erasmus is an exchange program around Europe right? I mean does erasmus include America?

I believe Erasmus is only in the EU. To study in the U.S. you would have to do it through a travel abroad program or an exchange program. You could also apply to an American university directly if you want to study your whole degree in the U.S.
