What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?

Leuven is known as one of the liveliest bar scenes in Belgium. It's called the 'longest bar' in Europe, the Old Market. There is literally just one big open square filled with nothing but bars after bars, and terraces always crowded each with their own music and crowd. There is everything for everybody.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?

for sure!

What is the food like?

I havent tried typical Belgium food, except wafels and belgian french fries with mayonnaise :)

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?

I was living in student house with 2 friends

How much does it cost to live in Leuven?

If you want to party everyday and travel a lot you need much more money for sure, but normally 400-500 euros per month should be enough.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes, there is opportunity to study Dutch but everyone speaks english, so there is no problem with communication.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?

cheap airlines like Wizzair or Ryanair

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?

everywhere :) BUT ! 7oaks should be the last stop in you night party journey, everyone goes there around 3-4 in the morning and stay there until 6 or 7 am.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?

kebab (in front of mcdonalds) :)
generally the Moonstreet is filled with restaurants only.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

I dont know any.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leuven in the future?

Rent a bike and travel around all over the Leuven, but watch it ! - it can be stolen or crushed ! ;)
