Why did you choose to go to Leuven, Belgium?

Because I love beer.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I received roughly a 320€-per-month scholarship, and it wasn't enough of course for living, renting a room and have some fun.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?

It's a city made for students so... Bikes, beer and nice girls everywhere.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?

Yes, I would.

What is the food like?

As an Italian I can tell food is very similar with the rest of continental europe. If you appreciate strong beers, meat and egg-made receipes, then you'll enjoy belgian cuisine.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?

No, I didn't pay to find an accommodation, but my monthly rent wasn't the cheapest (450 € per month for a small apartment).

How much does it cost to live in Leuven?

I guess you should count to spend a good 300 € (rent excluded) to live the typical Erasmus experience fully.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There are many language courses available (mainly to learn Dutch). The language is quite easy to understand if you're familiar with German, or anyway with Anglosaxon languages. Otherwise I suggest you to remember just the most common and useful words.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?

I flew from Italy, and I had a quite convenient Ryanair flight to Charleroi, a small airport 1 hour away from Brussels South. Then from there you can jump on a train and you'll reach Leuven in about 30 minutes.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?

Oude Markt square.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?

I would recommend either the Cafè Leffe (on the big street connecting the train station to the city centre) or Cafè Foyer (on the square behind the Cathedral).

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Not many, I'm afraid. However the churches around the city, out of the Ring, are definitely worth a visit (by bike) during sunny days!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leuven in the future?

Drink lots of beer (Westmalle Triple - personal suggestion) and enjoy! :)
