Why did you choose to go to Leuven, Belgium?

It's a student city so a lot of events and parties especially for Erasmus students. The academic level is high and it's a well recognized and top rated university.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

For the whole semester. The amount varies according to your current residence location.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?

Awesome. I made a lot and very good friends here. A lot of parties and different events. a lot of places to study outside such as libraries and studying halls.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?

Definitely.

What is the food like?

You have a lot of different cuisines. Leuven has a lot of different restaurants and cafe's.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?

No. I went to the the housing service of the university. Very simple and quick.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Very easy but not necessary. Everyone has good English here.There's a free Dutch course for Erasmus students but you should register in advance before school starts.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?

I need a trans-Atlantic flight but there's a really cheap and reliable bus company- Flixbus. Check if you have it from your city.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?

Oudemarkt is the obvious choice but all the fakbars are fun too and cheaper. And you can always take a train to party in Brussels.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?

For good coffee I recommend kaffe Onan and Swartehond.
If you like healthy food like me there's Life and Hawaiian bowl.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Not a lot of places, It's a small city.The museum is nice. The library is beautiful and you can go to the tower for a really nice view of the whole city.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leuven in the future?

Be prepared that you might need to pay from your own money (depends on your scholarship). Make sure you come prepared with all the necessary documents from your home university and the details of the courses your's going to take. Don't be shy and contact your coordinator whenever your'e not sure of something. Prepare your liver for a lot of alcohol and just remember that it's a really unique experience so take advantage! Travel, party, make new friends and just have fun.
