Why did you choose to go to Leuven, Belgium?

Because of the Institute of Philosophy. It's really good.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I don't have a scholarship.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leuven?

A lot like in other European countries. With the exception that nearly all domestic students leave the city during the weekend, so it can feel a bit empty.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Leuven to other students?

Depends on what one likes, but in general I would, yes.

What is the food like?

Not particularly good, to be honest. It's one of those north European things I guess. Too many kebabs, after a month you get sick and tired of them.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Leuven?

University accommodation service can give you a room for up to a month in a guest dorm if you hadn't had the chance to get hands on one of your own, but make sure to make reservations.

How much does it cost to live in Leuven?

Depends. 500-600 p/m for a studio (with 2 months rent security deposit), 300-400 p/m for a nice room. 10-20 euro a day for food and drink. That's for comfortable living, you can get by with less money, of course.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

All my courses are in English.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Leuven from your city?

A plane to Brussels Zaventem then train to Leuven train station.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Leuven?

Oude Markt.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Leuven?

Muntstraat.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Arenberg castle, definitely. The museum.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Leuven in the future?

Plan in advance. Bring warm clothes and a spare umbrella. Make friends, go out, enjoy.
